Heather Rose, 33, lost her life following a single-vehicle crash along Butterwood Road over the weekend. Family members and loved ones are mourning her passing after she died from injuries sustained in the wreck.
The crash occurred on Sunday, August 2, in the 20000 block of Butterwood Road in Dinwiddie County. Emergency crews were called to the rural stretch after receiving reports of a serious accident.
Investigators with the Virginia State Police reported that Rose was riding as a passenger in a 1997 Dodge pickup truck. The truck was traveling westbound down Butterwood Road before it ran off the left side of the roadway.
After leaving the asphalt, the pickup truck struck a concrete culvert along the ditch line. The impact failed to stop the truck, sending it traveling through an open field toward a small ravine.
The Dodge pickup flipped over as it crossed the ravine, coming to a rest on the opposite side. Rose was partially thrown from her seat during the rollover and became trapped inside the cab.
Dinwiddie County firefighters arrived at the crash site and used rescue equipment to pull Rose from the vehicle. Medics rushed her to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, where she later died.
State police noted that neither Rose nor the driver appeared to be wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision. Authorities are considering alcohol as a possible factor as the investigation into what caused the crash continues.
