A massive cleanup and death investigation took over the southbound lanes of Interstate 99 in Blair County after a fatal two-vehicle collision early Tuesday. The overnight crash claimed the life of 40-year-old Joshua Russell Brown of State College, leaving law enforcement with a complex scene to untangle.
First responders received dispatch calls at 12:50 a.m. heading toward mile marker 42.6. When officers and medics arrived, they discovered heavy wreckage involving a commercial tractor-trailer and confirmed that Brown had died from his injuries right at the spot.
The crash damaged the tractor-trailer so severely that standard towing procedures were impossible. Firefighters from the Excelsior Fire Company had to manually unload cargo from the trailer before heavy equipment could safely haul the damaged rig off the highway.
