Marcus Miller never made it past that intersection. The 26-year-old from Sugarcreek was heading west on State Route 39 when everything changed in a second.
Martha Egan, 84, of Dover was coming the other way. She started a left turn onto County Road 77. Miller’s motorcycle hit the right side of her car hard.
It was about 10:40 in the morning. Troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s New Philadelphia Post got the call quick. They found Miller with injuries that ended his life right there at the scene.
No one else got hurt. Egan walked away. The road sits in Sugarcreek Township, right in the middle of Tuscarawas County. That stretch of State Route 39 cuts through Amish Country and ties the towns together.
Investigators are still piecing it together. They have not said what might have caused the turn or if any charges are coming. The patrol is looking at every detail from that quiet Sunday.
Miller lived just up the road in Sugarcreek. Friends and family now face the empty space he left. The intersection stayed quiet after the wreck, but the questions linger.
Local crews cleared the scene while the investigation kept going. State Route 39 runs east and west past farms and small shops. This was just another stretch of pavement until the crash stopped everything.
