A 13-year-old boy from Shreveport is locked up tonight. Police say he shot and killed his older sister inside their home.

The girl was Makayla Pennywell. She was 14. Officers answered a shooting call on Sunday afternoon. They found her with a gunshot wound to the head. She died at 2:35 p.m. The Caddo Parish Coroner confirmed who she was.

Investigators detained the people who were in the house on Legardy Street. After talking to them they focused on the 13-year-old. He is her brother. They charged him with second-degree murder and took him to juvenile detention.

Nobody has explained what led up to the shot. Police have not said if the gun was still there or if other kids or adults saw it happen. The investigation is still open.

Detectives keep gathering what they can. They promise to share more when the facts are solid. For now the boy stays in custody while the case builds.

Houses on that north Shreveport block look like any other. On Sunday one of them became a crime scene. A young brother faces the charge. His sister is gone.

The Shreveport Police Department handles the case with help from the coroner’s office. That is the full picture so far.
