Sean Rucker sat high in his large box truck on westbound Highway 78. The 54-year-old was rolling near the Stone Mountain Park exit on Saturday when a Ford Focus tried to merge ahead of him. Words got exchanged. The two vehicles kept pace side by side.
Rucker later told police he saw the other driver point a gun. He fired several rounds. The shots punched through the roof of the Focus. They struck Napoleon Curtis, 37, under the right armpit and in the right leg.
Curtis’ car ended up off the road. Officers arrived about 3:20 p.m. and found him dead from the multiple gunshot wounds. Help came from Gwinnett County and Stone Mountain police right at the DeKalb-Gwinnett line.
Rucker was picked up nearby. Warrants charged him with felony murder and aggravated assault. Investigators noted that no gun was ever found inside Curtis’ vehicle.
