Someone opened fire outside the 601 Club early Sunday and left two men dead. The shots came after a dispute in the parking lot around 1:30 a.m. on North Fayetteville Avenue.
Police rolled up to the place that used to go by The Corner Bar. They found Jarvis Elliott of Erwin and Travis Williams of Dunn already gone from their wounds right outside. The shooter was already gone too.
A Dunn man got grazed by a bullet. A woman from Coats took one in the back. Both of them jumped in private cars and headed to the hospital on their own. No one waited for an ambulance.
Investigators went to work right away. They started talking to anybody who saw what happened and checking the cameras. The State Bureau of Investigation joined in to process the whole scene.
As of Sunday afternoon the police had no one in custody. They released no description of a suspect and no name. The case sits with detectives still sorting the pieces.
People who knew the two men started sharing memories online. The posts painted them as the kind of guys who got caught in the wrong place when tempers snapped.
The whole thing played out at 601 North Fayetteville Avenue at West Carr Street. One argument, several shots, and two lives over before the sun came up.
