Omari Chapple was just 20 years old when he got shot at a house in the 300 block of Susie Avenue. It happened on Saturday, August 1. Deputies from the Woodruff County Sheriff’s Office got the call about a shooting and headed over. They found Omari and a 40-year-old woman named Talisha Chapple both hit by bullets.
An ambulance took Omari to Unity Health–White County Medical Center in Searcy. Doctors and nurses tried everything they could. He still died from the wounds.
Police later found out a third person got hurt in the same shooting. Annisia Atkins, 22, also from Cotton Plant, was taken by private car to Forrest City Medical Center. From there they flew her to Regional One Health in Memphis. She was in critical condition.
Talisha Chapple got flown to the same Memphis hospital. Her condition was stable.
The Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division is handling the case as a homicide and battery. They have not named any suspect. No one has been arrested. No one has said what the motive might be. The investigation is still going.
People who knew Omari in Cotton Plant are feeling the loss hard. He left a hole in the lives of his family and friends.
Folks around town are sending thoughts to Omari’s family. They are also hoping Talisha and Annisia pull through.
