Ashley Garibay was just 23 and far from home when the shots rang out. The Stockton, California native had taken a job at the brand-new In-N-Out Burger in Twin Falls, Idaho. She was on shift Saturday afternoon, looking after customers the way the chain always teaches its crew.
Family members confirmed her death Monday. They posted photos and memories online as the news spread. Relatives said she came north for the work and the chance to be part of something fresh. The restaurant had only been open about a week.
In-N-Out owner Lynsi Snyder put out a statement early on. She said a female employee was among the dead. “She was taking care of our most important asset – our Customers, and her life was taken by a disgusting human who doesn’t value the lives of others or his own,” Snyder wrote. The company pledged to mourn with the families.
Police say 24-year-old Chad Williams walked into the busy spot with a rifle and opened fire. Three people died. At least seven more were hurt. Some of the wounded stayed in critical shape for days. Officers cleared nearby stores and locked down the shopping area while the chaos unfolded.
Williams was found dead nearby. Authorities said he died from a self-inflicted gunshot. An off-duty state trooper and a civilian both fired back at him. Officials credited those two with driving the gunman away and stopping more people from getting hit.
City leaders in Twin Falls said investigators still had no clear motive by Monday. They asked the public to hold off on rumors while the FBI joined the case. Garibay’s loved ones kept sharing tributes, calling her kind and hardworking. Friends remembered her smile and the way she looked out for the people around her.
The restaurant sat quiet after the attack. Workers and regulars who knew Ashley talked about the ordinary Saturday that turned into something no one there will forget.
