Jarvis Elliott from Erwin and Travis Williams from Dunn never made it home Sunday morning. They died right outside the 601 Club on North Fayetteville Avenue after a dispute turned into gunfire around 1:30 a.m.
Police got the call about multiple people shot at the bar that used to be called The Corner Bar. Officers found the two men already down outside. Both had been hit in the shooting that started from an argument out front.
A man from Dunn took a graze wound. A woman from Coats got hit in the back. Those two drove themselves to the hospital in separate cars. The two who died stayed where they fell.
Friends started posting tributes online almost right away. They talked about the men as regular guys who showed up for their people. The messages mixed sadness with anger that it ended this way over a fight.
Detectives spent the day collecting what they could. They talked to witnesses and pulled the surveillance video. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation showed up to help work the scene.
No one has been arrested. Police have not named any suspect. The case stays open while they dig through the evidence from that early morning mess.
The bar sits at the corner of North Fayetteville Avenue and West Carr Street. What started as words outside ended with two lives cut short and two more people carrying bullet wounds.
