Eric L. Swearengen Jr. was just 22 years old. He lived in St. Louis. Early Sunday morning someone shot him in the 1500 block of North 46th Street in Washington Park. He died right there.

The St. Clair County Coroner’s Office confirmed his identity. Police found him after the shooting. He was pronounced dead in the early hours. No one has said what led up to it.

That same weekend another man lost his life a few miles away. Demonta Hunter, 29, from East St. Louis, was shot near North 24th Street and Missouri Avenue. He died shortly before 6 a.m. Sunday.

Illinois State Police stepped in to help. They are working with Washington Park police on Swearengen’s case. They are also helping East St. Louis police with Hunter’s case. Both probes are still open.

Detectives have not shared more about either shooting. They keep looking into what happened. Families of both men are left waiting for answers.

Washington Park and East St. Louis saw two separate killings in one weekend. Swearengen’s death hit first in the early morning. Hunter’s followed not long after.

Police say the investigations remain active. They urge anyone with information to come forward. Right now those are the only facts released.
