Law enforcement authorities in Westmoreland County are actively working to piece together the events surrounding a fatal late-night motorcycle accident. The incident took the life of 24-year-old Rylie Hillegas of Greensburg, Pennsylvania, late Friday evening. The crash occurred on a dark stretch of road, prompting an immediate multi-agency response to investigate what went wrong.

Official records from Westmoreland County Coroner John Ackerman indicate that the crash took place shortly before midnight on Baughman Hollow Road. The specific site of the wreck was identified just east of Pandora Way in Hempfield Township. Hempfield Township is a quiet municipality in western Pennsylvania situated southeast of Pittsburgh, where rural roadways can pose significant driving challenges after dark.

According to preliminary findings, Hillegas was operating a motorcycle traveling eastbound along Baughman Hollow Road when he entered a curved section of the street. As he proceeded through the turn, he was unable to successfully negotiate the bend. The motorcycle lost control and collided directly with a roadside guiderail.

The force of the collision immediately separated Hillegas from his motorcycle. Investigators confirmed that he was operating the vehicle alone at the time of the incident, with no other passengers or vehicles directly involved in the initial crash sequence. Emergency medical personnel arrived swiftly at the scene to provide life-saving care.

Medics transported Hillegas from the crash scene to a regional hospital for emergency treatment. However, his injuries were too critical to survive, and medical personnel pronounced him deceased a short time later. Coroner Ackerman confirmed in his report that Hillegas was not wearing a protective helmet during the collision.

A joint investigation into the fatal incident is currently being conducted by the Pennsylvania State Police and the City of Jeannette Police Department. Crash reconstruction specialists and officers are looking into all potential factors, including road conditions, speed, and visibility along Baughman Hollow Road near the Route 66 overpass.

At this time, authorities have not announced whether any additional contributing factors, such as mechanical failure or environmental conditions, played a role in the crash. The Westmoreland County Coroner’s Office is scheduled to determine the official cause and manner of death following pending autopsy and toxicology examinations as the investigation remains open and active.
