A Wednesday morning in Abington turned into absolute heartbreak for local families, leaving a tight-knit community struggling to cope with a loss no parent should ever face. Seventeen-year-old Sebastian Hamilton lost his life in a horrific single-car accident on Washington Street. In just a split second, a young life full of potential was cut short, leaving family, friends, and classmates completely devastated.
People who knew Sebastian remember him as an outgoing teenager who could effortlessly start up a long conversation with anyone he met. The tragic sequence of events began around 7:50 in the morning along Washington Street. Local police spotted a red Hyundai Santa Fe that had been reported stolen out of nearby Brockton a day earlier. When an officer attempted to execute a routine traffic stop on Walnut Street, the SUV kept moving, heading down the roadway with five young teenagers packed inside the cabin.
Seconds later, near 877 Washington Street, the vehicle veered off the road and hit a tree with overwhelming force. The crushing impact demolished the front of the vehicle, trapping Sebastian inside the wreckage. Emergency responders rushed to the scene and did everything they could, but Sebastian was pronounced dead right there at the scene.
The crash also left four other teenagers, ages 14 to 17, severely injured. One teenage girl was thrown out of the vehicle upon impact, while three other passengers—a boy and two girls—suffered life-threatening trauma. First responders quickly transported them to nearby hospitals before transferring all four to specialized medical centers in Boston, where doctors continue working around the clock.
As news of the accident spread through the neighborhood, local residents expressed deep sadness over the tragedy.
