Before the sun even started to creep up over Calhoun County on Tuesday morning, a family’s whole world shattered in an instant. Destiney M. Bobo, a forty-year-old Anniston local, lost her life out on the dark pavement of Alabama 202. It happened around four-thirty in the morning, a time when most folks around town were still fast asleep.
Destiney was out along the roadway near the six-mile marker, less than a mile west of her hometown of Anniston. It was quiet and still out on that stretch of highway. Nobody expects a peaceful morning stroll or routine trip to end in heartbreak, but tragedy struck in a split second.
A 2015 Ram 1500 pickup truck was traveling down the same stretch of highway. Behind the wheel was thirty-nine-year-old Kerry P. McIntosh, who also calls Anniston home. As the truck moved down the dark road, it struck Destiney while she was in the roadway.
The force of the impact was devastating. Emergency crews rushed out to the scene as soon as the call came in, hoping to help. But the injuries Destiney suffered were just too severe, and officials pronounced her dead right there at the scene.
State Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division quickly took charge of the area. They shut down the stretch of road and began piecing together what happened. Officials are still looking into all the details, and they haven’t released any extra updates just yet.
