It started out like any other hot summer Saturday morning in central Texas. Shane Albright grabbed his keys, put on his work clothes, and stepped out the door heading for his shift. Nobody could have guessed that would be the very last time his family would see him smiling and heading out for the day.
Shane was just twenty-seven years old and making his way in life. He lived right in Waco and worked over at the local AutoZone. On July 25, 2026, around ten-thirty in the morning, he left a neighborhood near the 9900 block of Ridings Drive to head straight to work. But he never walked through those store doors, and he never made it back home.
If you lived in the area, you probably would have noticed Shane or his ride anywhere. He stood tall at six-foot-three with long dark brown hair and brown eyes. On top of that, he was driving a really unique car that stood out on local roads. It was a black 2003 Saturn Ion sedan fitted with a bold red rear spoiler and custom body graphics.
When Shane failed to show up for work and stopped answering his phone, his family knew something was terribly wrong. He was not the kind of guy to just vanish without letting anyone know where he was going. Worry turned into widespread concern as family members and close friends rallied together, plastering social media with his picture and praying for his safe return.
For three long days, everyone held on to hope that Shane was just stuck somewhere and needed a hand. But those prayers turned into pure heartbreak on Tuesday morning. A passerby spotted someone floating in the water near Koehne Park over at Lake Waco and called the authorities right away.
Emergency crews scrambled to the scene shortly after eight-thirty in the morning. Waco police officers, firefighters, Texas Game Wardens, and paramedics all worked side by side to recover the young man from the lake. Tragically, it was too late, and Shane was officially pronounced dead right there at the park.
Now, a local family is left grieving the devastating loss of a young man who had so much life left ahead of him. The community is wrapping its arms around Shane’s loved ones as they search for comfort and closure. Police are still looking into what happened, asking anyone who saw Shane or his car over the weekend to call the Waco Police Department at 254-750-7500.
