It started as a quiet evening on Reena Drive, but it ended in an unimaginable tragedy that shattered a Central Florida family. Inside her Daytona Beach townhome, 44-year-old Jacqueline Reyes was shot and killed in a violent act of domestic abuse. The sudden loss has left neighbors, loved ones, and an entire community reeling in shock.
Around 6 p.m. on July 27, the quiet of the neighborhood was shattered by gunfire. Moments later, one of Jacqueline’s own sons made a desperate call to 911. Officers rushed to the scene as fast as they could, but when they stepped inside the home, they found Jacqueline dead from a gunshot wound.
Jacqueline was a loving mother of three boys who was simply trying to move on with her life. People close to her knew she was doing her best to build a fresh start for herself and her kids. But that peaceful effort was cut short in a matter of seconds by someone who refused to let her go.
Police say her estranged husband forced his way into the back door of the home shortly before the shooting. Investigators revealed that he had grown furious after learning Jacqueline was dating other people. That jealousy quickly escalated into a deadly confrontation right inside the place where she should have been safest.
Sadly, this was not the first time trouble had brewed between the two. Police records show officers had to respond to the same townhome back in December 2025 when her estranged husband broke in and smashed up her belongings. Jacqueline had even sought a restraining order against him back in 2017, though the case was later dropped when she did not show up in court.
As police investigated the scene on Reena Drive, officers across county lines were already hunting for the shooter. Using automatic license plate readers, law enforcement tracked his car down to Titusville. The quick chase ended when the suspect drove into a pond at Sand Point Park, refusing to come out.
By the time officers reached the car, he was dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Daytona Beach Police Chief Jakari Young called it an absolute tragedy, pointing out the painful reality that three young boys lost both of their parents in just two hours. Now, a heartbroken community is wrapping its arms around those three sons as they face a future without their mother.
