Makayla Pennywell was just 14 years old. She lived in Shreveport. On Sunday afternoon her life ended inside a house on the north side of town.

Her 13-year-old brother was right there in the house. Detectives talked to the people inside. They took the boy into custody. He now faces a charge of second-degree murder. They moved him to the juvenile detention center.

No one has said what started the fight or how the gun came out. Police have not told if they found the weapon or if anyone else saw the whole thing. The house sits in the 2400 block of Legardy Street.

Shreveport detectives are still working the case. They keep talking to people who might know more. They say more facts will come out when they are ready.

This is the kind of call that hits hard in any neighborhood. A teenage girl is gone. Her younger brother sits in custody. The family has to live with both things at once.

The Shreveport Police Department leads the investigation. The coroner’s office helps with the medical side. That is where the story stands right now.
