Rylie-Shea Muhlbauer was just 27 years old. She lived in Manning and ran her own chiropractic office there. On Sunday morning she was shot inside a house on East Shore Drive in Lake View.
The Sac County Emergency Communication Center got the call at 10:27 a.m. on August 2. Lake View police and medics hurried over. They found her already gone.
Joshua Lehman, also 27 and from Shenandoah, was arrested right after. He faces a first-degree murder charge, a Class A felony in Iowa.
Officials have not said how the two knew each other. Their Facebook pages show they were a couple. Muhlbauer had moved up from Kansas not long ago. She opened Higher Up Chiropractic and was building her practice in Manning.
Lehman trains people for a living under the name JLstrength. He also competes in Strongman events. The house where it happened sits near Black Hawk Lake in Sac County, about a hundred miles northwest of Des Moines.
Lake View police, the Sac County sheriff, the county attorney, and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation are all working the case. They say the probe is still open. No extra details have come out yet.
A charge is only an accusation. Lehman is presumed innocent unless a court decides otherwise.
