Luke Hargadine left Wichita for the open road early Sunday. He never made it home.
Around 2:18 a.m., his car headed south on U.S. 77 just inside El Dorado city limits in Butler County. For reasons still unknown, the vehicle crossed the center line and slipped into the left-turn lane.

It slammed head-on into a car coming the other way in the northbound lanes. The impact was sudden and hard.
Hargadine, 35, died right there at the scene. Kansas Highway Patrol troopers confirmed it.
The other driver, a 47-year-old woman, got airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries. Her passenger, a 76-year-old man, went by ambulance in critical condition.
No one knows yet why Hargadine’s car drifted. Troopers keep digging into the details of that quiet stretch of highway.
Families on both sides now face hospital rooms and hard questions while the investigation rolls on.
