A Monday morning turned devastating for a far North Side neighborhood after 64-year-old Valerie Keeney lost her life in a sudden two-vehicle crash. Friends, family, and neighbors across San Antonio are grieving the loss of a local woman whose day ended in an instant just minutes from her front door.
The crash happened around 11 a.m. at the intersection of Hardy Oak Boulevard and Sable Canyon. Keeney was driving out of her residential neighborhood, looking to head southbound on Hardy Oak Boulevard, a busy stretch of road lined with residential turnouts.
According to police reports, Keeney entered the intersection after reportedly failing to come to a complete stop at the stop sign. As her car pulled into the main lanes, a northbound vehicle driven by a teenager struck her car on the driver’s side with heavy impact.
The force of the collision crumpled the vehicle and pinned Keeney inside. Callers rushed to contact emergency services as traffic backed up along Sable Canyon.
San Antonio fire crews and paramedics arrived within minutes and immediately went to work. First responders cut into the frame to free Keeney from the wreckage and started life-saving efforts on the spot. Despite their rapid work, she died from her injuries at the scene.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office took custody of the scene shortly after. Investigators are working to confirm the official cause and manner of death while San Antonio police finish mapping out the crash site.
For the local community, the corner of Hardy Oak and Sable Canyon now stands as a painful reminder of how fast a routine morning trip can go wrong. Family members and close friends continue to process the sudden loss.
