A 13-year-old boy sits in juvenile detention right now. Cops charged him with second-degree murder. The victim was his sister, Makayla Pennywell, who was 14.

It all went down at a house on LeGardy Street. Shreveport police got the call about a shooting around 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 2. When they rolled up, Makayla had a gunshot wound to the head.

She died from that injury. The Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office made the ID official. Her brother is the one they say pulled the trigger.

Officers locked him up and moved him to the detention center for kids. No bond talk yet. Just the charge and the hold.

Detectives still work the scene and the story. They gather every bit of evidence they can. The full picture of why it happened stays under wraps for now.

People in the neighborhood talk about how crazy it feels. A brother and sister, both so young, and one ends up dead. The family has to live with that forever.

Police promise more information when they have it. Until then the case keeps moving. A 13-year-old faces grown-up charges over the death of his own sister.
