Makayla Pennywell was just 14 when a bullet hit her in the head. It happened at her home on LeGardy Street. Police got the call around 2:30 in the afternoon on Sunday, August 2.
Officers from the Shreveport Police Department showed up fast. They found the young girl hurt bad. She had a gunshot wound to the head. Medics tried to help, but she died from those injuries later on.

Her own brother, a 13-year-old boy, got arrested for it. Cops charged him with second-degree murder. They took him straight to a juvenile detention center.
The Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office confirmed her name and age. Folks around here knew her as a kid who still had her whole life ahead. Now that life is gone.
Police say they are still digging into what went down that day. They keep collecting evidence. More details should come out once they know the full story.
Family and friends feel the hole she left. The whole Shreveport community feels it too. A 14-year-old should not end up like this.
This case stays open. Investigators work to piece it all together. Everybody waits for answers about how a sibling fight or whatever it was turned deadly so quick.
