Brooklyn Gilfillan drove her Kia Sorento north on North Parham Road Saturday afternoon. She had five kids and one other passenger with her. Just before 3 p.m. an oncoming Mustang lost control. It crossed the center line and smashed into her vehicle head-on.

The 36-year-old from the area died right there at the scene. The Mustang driver, 18-year-old Justin Meenaghan, died too. His 2006 Ford Mustang had been heading south between Highway 55 and Highway 557 in Clover.

Six people rode in the Kia besides Gilfillan. Five of them were juveniles. All six went to a local hospital. No one has said how they are doing now.

The crash shut down North Parham Road for hours. Crews worked the scene until the road opened back up around 8 p.m.

South Carolina Highway Patrol still looks into what made the Mustang driver lose control. No other details have come out yet.

Gilfillan never made it home that day. The kids she carried sat in the wrecked SUV until help arrived. The impact left both cars mangled on the two-lane road.

Investigators measure skid marks and talk to any witnesses. They want to know the full story behind the sudden loss of control. Families wait for answers while the probe continues.
