Tuscaloosa, Alabama, lost its own on Monday when Ava L. Smith, 43, died in a single-vehicle crash on Alabama 25 in Hale County. The Chevrolet Tahoe she was driving left the road and hit an embankment. She was not wearing a seatbelt.
The crash happened at about 12:20 p.m. south of Greensboro. Senior Trooper Jere K. Jensen was on the scene and said the seatbelt rule was the one thing that could have changed everything. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.
