Ava L. Smith of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, died when her Chevrolet Tahoe slammed into an embankment on Alabama 25 about five miles south of Greensboro on Monday. Authorities say she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The accident happened around 12:20 p.m. on the two-lane road through Hale County. Troopers told reporters the Tahoe left the pavement and struck the dirt embankment hard enough to kill the 43-year-old driver instantly. Senior Trooper Jere K. Jensen confirmed she was not buckled up.
