Saturday afternoon errand turned into a sudden tragedy for the Twin Falls community when Terry Dudley was killed in a violent shooting. Dudley had pulled up near the newly opened In-N-Out Burger shortly after 3 p.m. to charge his Tesla. Instead of finishing his stop and heading home, he was caught in the middle of a deadly attack that shattered a quiet weekend.
Those who knew Dudley are struggling to process how fast everything happened. He was simply sitting by the charging stalls while shoppers and diners moved in and out of the busy parking lot. Within moments, gunshots broke out across the area, turning an ordinary afternoon into utter panic.
The attack happened right next to the local In-N-Out Burger, which had celebrated its grand opening just days earlier. The popular new spot had been drawing steady crowds all afternoon. People nearby reported hearing sudden shots and seeing customers run for cover as chaos spread through the crowded commercial strip.
Dudley was one of three victims killed during the outburst. Two other people were injured in the gunfire and rushed to St. Luke’s Magic Valley Medical Center for emergency care. The suspected gunman was also killed at the scene, bringing the active danger to an end.
Emergency calls brought officers to the scene within minutes. Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks confirmed that local police responded alongside several other law enforcement groups. The investigation quickly expanded to include the Twin Falls County Sheriff’s Office, the Idaho State Police, and federal agents from the FBI.
Officers quickly locked down the surrounding area to protect the public and preserve evidence. Authorities closed major roads around the scene for several hours and issued a temporary shelter-in-place order for nearby residents. That order remained in effect until investigators determined the site was secure.
With the shelter-in-place order now lifted, the city is left grieving a heavy loss. Family, friends, and neighbors continue to remember Terry Dudley as a loved community member whose life was cut far too short. His death leaves a deep void across Twin Falls as people try to cope with the tragedy.
