It was a typical Friday evening along the quiet stretches of Terrebonne Parish, the kind where folks are wrapping up their work week and heading home to family. But for the small, tight-knit town of Houma, July 31 turned into a night of profound heartbreak. A quiet drive down Bayou Gardens Boulevard Extension suddenly turned fatal, leaving a local family shattered and a whole community in mourning.
Timothy Brewer was 58 years old, a familiar face around Houma whose presence brought genuine warmth to those who knew him. That evening, he was behind the wheel of his 2015 Kia Optima, traveling westbound on the extension near Louisiana Highway 660. Friends and loved ones remembered him as a person whose life touched many, making the sudden news of his passing almost impossible to process.

Just before 5:00 p.m., something went terribly wrong on that stretch of road. For reasons state troopers are still trying to unravel, Brewer’s Kia drifted out of its lane. It crossed over the center line and moved directly into the path of oncoming traffic in the eastbound lane.
Heading east at that exact moment was a 2022 Honda CR-V. With almost no time for either driver to react or pull away, the two vehicles collided head-on in a violent crash. The impact was devastating, echoing down the quiet corridor of Bayou Gardens Boulevard.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene shortly after receiving the emergency call, but there was little they could do for Brewer. He suffered severe, fatal injuries from the direct force of the collision. Paramedics pronounced him dead right at the scene, marking a grim end to what should have been a normal Friday afternoon.
The driver of the Honda CR-V survived the violent wreck, thanks in large part to wearing a seatbelt. Still, that driver suffered moderate injuries in the collision. First responders quickly treated the individual on site before transporting them to an out-of-area hospital for further medical care and recovery.
As part of standard procedure following any fatal crash, Louisiana State Police Troop C collected routine toxicology samples from both drivers. Investigators are waiting on those lab results as they work to piece together why Brewer’s car drifted across the line. Meanwhile, those who loved Timothy Brewer are left holding onto precious memories, leaning on each other to get through an overwhelming loss.
