The eastbound driver was cruising along Highway 20 on a clear Friday afternoon, oblivious to the tragic chain of events about to unfold. At the same time, 78-year-old Ronnie Kirk was driving south on County Road S 438 with his 77-year-old wife, Sandra Kirk, riding in the passenger seat. Neither driver could have anticipated how quickly their paths would cross at that rural junction.
According to initial findings by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Ronnie Kirk pulled his vehicle onto State Highway 20 directly into the path of the oncoming eastbound traffic. The eastbound driver was unable to avoid the sudden obstacle, crashing directly into the Kirks’ vehicle. The violent impact instantly turned a calm highway drive into a high-stakes emergency scene.
In a stunning turn of events that amazed onlookers, the driver of the eastbound vehicle emerged from the crumpled metal entirely uninjured. While that driver walked away without a scratch, the outcome for the couple in the other vehicle was tragically different.
