An unidentified shooter is on the run after opening fire on a residential street in Martinsville early Saturday morning. The gunshots left one young man dead and two women wounded, leaving local police searching for answers in a fast-moving homicide investigation.

The chaos broke out around 4:14 a.m. in the 400 block of Fayette Street. Nearby residents were woken up by the sharp crack of multiple gunshots echoing through the block. Emergency callers dialed 911 immediately, reporting that several people had been shot outdoors.

Martinsville police officers rushed to the area within minutes and found a horrific scene. Twenty-four-year-old D’Sean Jones, visiting from nearby Danville, was lying on the pavement with fatal gunshot wounds. First responders confirmed he died at the scene.

Investigators quickly realized the violence had impacted multiple lives that morning. One adult woman was located right at the crime scene with gunshot wounds, while a second injured woman arrived at SOVAH Martinsville hospital seeking emergency treatment.

Detectives immediately blocked off Fayette Street between High Street and Peters Street to preserve evidence. Forensic teams spent hours tagging shell casings, measuring distance markers, and checking nearby homes for doorbell cameras or security video.

Martinsville Police Chief Chad Rhoads confirmed that no suspect description or motive has been established yet. Investigators are keeping all leads open as they try to figure out what sparked the confrontation and who pulled the trigger.

Lieutenant Lane Clark and the Martinsville Police Department are calling on the public for help. Anyone who heard something or saw a suspicious vehicle leaving Fayette Street around 4:10 a.m. is urged to contact police right away to help bring answers to the victims.
