It started out as an ordinary Tuesday afternoon in Southwest Atlanta. A simple bite of food was all it took to trigger a complete nightmare inside a local home. One minute a man was sitting around enjoying a meal, and the next minute he was staring down the barrel of a loaded gun held by his own brother.

​The trouble began around three in the afternoon in the quiet twenty-three hundred block of Butner Road Southwest. Outside the house, loud gunshots suddenly shattered the peace of the neighborhood. Six distinct blasts rang out in rapid succession, sending shockwaves through the street.

​Inside the residence, the victim could only watch in terror as the situation spiraled completely out of control. His brother had just emptied a weapon in the front yard. But the chaos did not stop at the front door. His brother marched right back inside the house with the firearm still in his hand.

​He walked straight up to his brother with a cold look in his eyes. He raised the gun, pointed it directly at him, and delivered a chilling threat. He shouted that he was going to kill him for eating his food, letting his rage boil over a missing plate of food.

​For the victim, those terrifying seconds felt like an eternity. He was trapped inside his own living room, confronting a family member who was ready to pull the trigger over leftovers. Luckily, the victim managed to survive the tense standoff and contact local authorities.

​When Atlanta police officers arrived at the scene, they met with the shaken victim outside the home. He quickly recounted the wild sequence of events to the responding cops. He explained how his brother snapped over something as minor as a meal, leaving the family terrified and searching for answers.

Inside a purse sitting in the home, officers recovered a heavy-duty Glock 21 forty-five caliber handgun along with a magazine and seven extra rounds of ammunition.
