Dotts and 47-year-old Karla Taylor, were taken in an instant on a quiet stretch of road.
It happened on Tuesday morning, July 28, 2026, along U.S. Highway 395. Just around 5:17 a.m., as dawn was breaking, the duo was traveling north in a passenger car near Blue Creek, roughly five miles northwest of Chewelah. What started as an ordinary early morning drive quickly turned into a catastrophic nightmare.
According to state troopers, the passenger vehicle suddenly crossed over the center line into incoming traffic. Coming down the opposite lane was a heavy commercial garbage truck heading south. The two vehicles collided head-on with tremendous force, sending shockwaves through the quiet morning air.
