Frank McKulka Bike Accident, Perryopolis: High-speed motorcycle crash outside local diner leaves two dead and passenger fighting for life

It was supposed to be just another ordinary Thursday afternoon along Route 51 in Fayette County. Folks were grabbing lunch at Randall’s Restaurant, enjoying the quiet midday sunshine in Perryopolis. But around noon, everything changed in a flash when a violent crash broke the silence outside.

Frank McKulka, a 41-year-old resident of nearby Grindstone, was riding his motorcycle down the busy stretch of Pittsburgh Road. Known to friends as a local who loved the open road, McKulka was moving along Route 51 at what state police later described as a high rate of speed.

As McKulka made his way past the 3530 block, 81-year-old Larry Hall was pulling out of the Randall’s Restaurant parking lot in his Kia Soul. Hall, a resident of Belle Vernon, was trying to merge back onto the highway. In an instant, the two vehicles collided with terrifying force directly in front of the diner.

The impact was immediate and devastating. Emergency responders rushed to the scene shortly before 1:00 p.m., but there was little they could do for either driver. Both Frank McKulka and Larry Hall succumbed to their severe injuries right there at the scene.

A passenger sitting inside Hall’s Kia Soul survived the initial collision but suffered critical injuries. First responders quickly arranged for a medical helicopter to fly the victim straight to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. Loved ones and community members are now holding out hope and praying for a recovery.

Pennsylvania State Police troopers immediately closed down Route 51 in both directions between Rehoboth Church Road and Constitution Street to investigate. State Trooper Kalee Barnhart confirmed that officers determined McKulka was at fault due to the high rate of speed, though the full investigation remains ongoing.
