Morning commutes across Western New York usually carry a familiar, everyday rhythm. People grab their morning coffee, jump into traffic, and head off to start another normal workday. But on Thursday morning, that ordinary routine shattered into a deeply painful tragedy along a busy stretch of roadway.
Wilfredo Morales was simply navigating his usual morning when everything came to a sudden halt. The 46-year-old Buffalo resident was riding his e-bike along Sheridan Drive between Delaware Avenue and Delaware Road around 7:00 AM. In an instant, a devastating collision with a sedan ended his journey and changed countless lives forever.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene immediately after receiving urgent calls about the impact. First responders and paramedics worked quickly to assess the situation, but the outcome was heartbreaking. Wilfredo Morales was pronounced dead right there at the scene before he could be transported to a hospital.
News of his passing hit family, friends, and neighbors with overwhelming force. Those who knew Wilfredo remember him as a man whose presence mattered deeply to the people around him. Grief quickly spread through the local community as loved ones struggled to process the sudden loss of someone who had so much life left to live.
To secure the scene and collect critical physical evidence, law enforcement officers had to shut down the eastbound lanes of Sheridan Drive for several hours. Commuters were detoured through neighboring streets while investigators systematically documented tire marks, vehicle damage, and roadway conditions.
The driver of the sedan involved in the crash was identified as 47-year-old Shaun H. Wylie, also from Buffalo. Police confirmed that Wylie stayed at the scene and has been cooperating fully with law enforcement officers as they work to piece together every detail of what happened.
As the Town of Tonawanda Police Department’s Accident Investigation Unit and Criminal Investigation Bureau continue their work, no official conclusions or charges have been announced. Meanwhile, the community remains focused on honoring the memory of Wilfredo Morales, holding tight to shared memories and supporting his grieving family during an impossibly difficult time.
