Small towns run on people like Brad Fisher. For twenty-five years, Brad wore a badge with pride, serving his community with heart and a deep sense of duty. But on a clear Wednesday morning in Lynn, Indiana, that dedicated life of service came to a sudden and heartbreaking end.
It all started around 8:30 in the morning on U.S. 36. A Randolph County sheriff’s deputy spotted a stolen van cruising down the road and pulled up behind it to make a stop. Instead of pulling over like any normal driver, the suspect hit the gas and took off, triggering a tense police pursuit headed straight toward the small town of Lynn.
Word spread fast over the police radio. Officers down the road knew they had to stop the fleeing vehicle before it reached busy streets and put innocent lives in danger. Brad Fisher, serving as Lynn’s Town Marshal, stepped up without hesitation to lay down a tire deflation device along U.S. 36 eastbound.
He stood near the shoulder, focused on stopping the suspect and ending the dangerous chase cleanly. But in a split second, everything went terribly wrong. The fleeing van barreled toward him, hitting Marshal Fisher before he could get out of the way and inflicting injuries that proved fatal.
The reckless escape attempt came to an abrupt end just moments later. The driver lost control of the stolen van and slammed head-on into a nearby dump truck.
