Someone fired shots in a Kansas City parking lot early Sunday. Kierra McGee, 36, did not make it out alive. The shooting happened near Independence Avenue and Van Brunt Boulevard.
Police got the report just before 4 a.m. A Jackson County Sheriff’s deputy nearby heard the gunfire and helped out. Officers found McGee down in the lot of an auto parts business. She was already gone when medics checked her.

Early word is she stood in the lot with others when the gunfire started. One or more people did the shooting. McGee took the hits that killed her.
Detectives are treating this as a homicide. They are combing the scene for evidence and talking to anyone who might have seen the shooters. No names have come out yet on who pulled the trigger.

McGee’s people are hurting. They had been in touch with her not long before. Her social media posts from hours earlier make the loss hit harder for them.
The store sits on the northwest corner of the intersection. What started as a regular early morning spot became the place where a life ended in seconds.
