Kierra McGee was 36 years old. She died in a parking lot just before 4 a.m. Sunday. Police found her near Independence Avenue and Van Brunt Boulevard in northeast Kansas City, Missouri. She had been shot.
Officers got the call about gunfire outside an auto parts store. A Jackson County Sheriff’s deputy heard the shots too and got there fast. McGee was unresponsive when they arrived. Medics pronounced her dead right there.

She had been in the lot with a group of people. One or more people opened fire. She got hit. That is what investigators said based on early details.
Her family and friends are in shock. Some of them had just talked with her. She even posted on social media a few hours before it happened. Now they are left trying to make sense of it.
The parking lot sits on the northwest corner of that intersection. It is a spot people drive past every day. On this night it turned into a crime scene with detectives and crime scene techs working for hours.
No one has been named as a suspect yet. Police are still looking for witnesses and any video that might show what went down. The shooting happened quick and left one woman dead.
