A quiet neighborhood in Rock Hill turned into a crime scene early Saturday morning after 18-year-old Aliyah White was shot and killed. Friends and family are left trying to make sense of a night that ended in sudden violence.
Police got the call around 3:50 a.m. Officers rushed over to a house on Horseman Drive after reports of gunshots coming from the property.
When officers walked around to the back patio, they found Aliyah lying on the ground with a gunshot wound. Paramedics could not save her, and she was pronounced dead right at the scene.
The York County Coroner’s Office officially identified her later that day. Coroner Sabrina Gast said her team scheduled an autopsy and toxicology tests for later in the week to figure out the exact details surrounding the shooting.
While loved ones gathered to support each other, detectives started tracking down clues. That search led them straight to 22-year-old Jamorria McClinton.
Officers caught up with McClinton later Saturday at a relative’s house nearby. They took him into custody without incident and recovered the gun they believe was used in the shooting.
McClinton now sits in jail on charges of murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. The Rock Hill Police Department and the York County Coroner’s Office are still working the case together, and they want anyone with information to call police or York County Crimestoppers.
