Neighbors and loved ones across the area are struggling to wrap their heads around the tragic loss of the 36-year-old mother and her infant son.

It all started around 10:30 p.m. when frantic emergency calls brought Waterford police officers and local fire department crews rushing straight to the apartment complex.

Paramedics immediately jumped into action right there on the scene, doing everything humanly possible to revive the mother and her baby before loading them into separate ambulances.

Police escorts cleared the roads as emergency teams rushed both mother and child to separate nearby hospitals in a desperate race against time.

Despite the non-stop efforts of doctors and medical crews, both Desi and her baby boy were pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospitals.

On Saturday morning, autopsies performed by the Oakland County Medical Examiner officially confirmed that both the mother and her son died from drowning.

As family members and close friends lean on each other through the grief, everyone is holding onto sweet memories of Desi and her precious new baby while searching for answers.
