A plane crash late Saturday at the Blackfoot Airport killed the pilot and hurt two others. Caden West, 27, of Pocatello, was at the controls. The aircraft stopped across Teeples Drive after the impact.
Police arrived around 11 p.m. Debris blocked the road. The street stayed shut for several hours. West died right there. His two adult male passengers rode ambulances to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls. Officials gave no names or updates on how they were doing.
Earlier that same day, around 8:30 a.m., another plane crashed at the airport. It hit a berm on landing and flipped near the runway. Only the pilot was aboard. He got out with minor injuries and skipped the hospital. His identity stayed out of reports.
Investigators from Blackfoot police, the FAA, and the NTSB are on the case. They have not said what led to the fatal crash. The morning accident is part of the same review.
Motorists got told to stay away from Teeples Drive. Emergency vehicles and locals used other paths until crews cleared the mess.
The north end of the airport saw the night crash. Wreckage spread onto the roadway. Fire and police teams handled the response.
Work continues on both crashes. Blackfoot Police, Blackfoot Fire, the FAA, and the NTSB are still sorting out the details from that Saturday.
