Aiden Darity was nineteen years old and had his whole future sitting right in front of him. He recently finished high school and was busy getting ready to move into his very first apartment. Everyone who knew him remembered him as a bright young guy with plenty going for him.
All of those big plans vanished in an instant during the early hours of Thursday morning. Around 2:30 a.m., a personal vehicle pulled up to the emergency room entrance at Bradley Medical Center in Cleveland, Tennessee.
Inside the car was Darity, suffering from a serious gunshot wound. The emergency room team rushed into action immediately, doing everything they could to keep the teenager alive.
Despite the fast work by doctors and nurses, Darity died a short time later. What was supposed to be the start of an exciting new chapter for a young man ended inside an ER bay.
Cleveland police officers opened a full investigation right away to figure out how Darity got shot. Detectives started pulling clues together and soon learned he was not alone when the shot was fired.
Investigators identified two other nineteen-year-old men who were riding with Darity at the time of the incident: Haydon Land and Jayson Maxwell. Police quickly discovered that right after the shooting, someone threw the handgun out of the moving car along 25th Street.
A deputy from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office brought a trained K-9 dog out to search the area. The dog sniffed along the road and ended up finding the gun sitting down in a ditch.
Police ended up taking both Land and Maxwell into custody. Land faces charges of reckless homicide, conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, and tampering with evidence, while Maxwell was charged with conspiracy to commit aggravated assault and tampering with evidence as the investigation moves forward
