The town of Falls Church, Virginia is grieving a loss that hits right at the heart of the community. Eleven-year-old Charlotte Elizabeth Evans passed away peacefully on July 26, 2026. She had been fighting a long and tough battle against osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. Through every single hurdle, she showed a level of courage that left people around her completely amazed.
Charlotte was a rising sixth-grade student at Grace Christian Academy over in nearby Annandale. She was the kind of kid who brightened up any room she walked into. Even while dealing with heavy medical treatments, she never lost her big smile or her love for learning. She especially loved math and art, where her sharp mind and quick creativity really stood out.
If you spent five minutes with Charlotte, you knew she loved to build things. She could sit for hours working on super detailed LEGO sets, like giant Harry Potter castles. She also built tiny miniature houses and loved making clay projects alongside her grandmother, whom she called Gigi. Where other people saw simple craft supplies, Charlotte saw endless possibilities.
Outside the classroom, Charlotte was an absolute water bug. She joined her summer swim team when she was just six years old. By the summer of 2025, she became a key swimmer on her team, helping them pull off an undefeated championship season. She dreamed of one day getting her scuba diving license and swimming near the Great Barrier Reef.
Animals held a huge place in Charlotte’s heart too. She formed a special bond with a retired pony named Kane. Whenever she visited her grandparents’ farm down in Appomattox, she would run straight out to feed the baby lambs, hunt around for fresh chicken eggs, and play with the family dogs. That farm was pure joy for her.
First diagnosed with osteosarcoma when she was only eight years old, Charlotte went through more medical hurdles than most adults ever face. She endured knee and femur replacements, a broken ankle, tough chemotherapy sessions, and long hospital stays. But every time cancer tried to slow her down, she pushed back with physical therapy and got right back to doing what she loved.
Charlotte’s strong faith and sweet nature touched everyone she met along the way. She leaves behind her loving parents, Daniel and Jessica, her eight-year-old sister, Jourdan, and a tight-knit family who cherished every moment with her. Though her life was far too short, the bravery and joy she brought into this world will stick with her hometown forever.
