It was a quiet Monday evening that quickly turned into a tragedy for a local Kansas man. Guerrero Moreno Jr., a 46-year-old from Wichita, was out on his Harley-Davidson motorcycle for a ride. No one could have predicted that the night would end in an unthinkable disaster.
It was just past 9 p.m. when deputies got the urgent call. Moreno was cruising southbound on Meridian Avenue. It is a quiet stretch of rural road sitting just north of Valley Center Township. The Sedgwick County night was dark, and the road was likely empty, making what happened next incredibly puzzling.

For reasons that investigators are still trying to piece together, Moreno’s bike did not stay in its lane. The Harley somehow drifted out of the southbound lane. It crossed straight over into oncoming traffic and eventually went down, coming to a dead stop right in the middle of the northbound lanes.
Before anyone could react or hit the brakes, a Toyota RAV4 came cutting through the darkness. Driven by a 68-year-old woman from nearby Sedgwick, the northbound SUV plowed right into Moreno and his downed motorcycle. It is the kind of sudden, unavoidable nightmare that haunts drivers for a lifetime.
By the time emergency medical crews rushed to the scene near 109th Street, it was already too late. There was nothing they could do to save the Wichita rider. Authorities pronounced Moreno dead right there on the dark asphalt. It is a gut-wrenching end for a guy who was just out enjoying his Harley.
The woman driving the RAV4 did not walk away completely unscathed, either. First responders loaded her into an ambulance and transported her to a local hospital. Fortunately, her physical injuries were minor. However, the emotional toll of such a horrifying collision is truly unimaginable, and her identity remains unreleased.
Now, the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Team is left to sort out the tragic aftermath. Spokesman Branden Stitt confirmed they are digging into what exactly caused Moreno to swerve onto the wrong side of the road. Until they find some solid answers, the community is left mourning a senseless loss on a quiet Kansas highway.
