A routine morning commute on the east side of Allentown turned into a scene of complete disaster on Friday morning. Right around 9:00 a.m., traffic came to a screeching halt at the intersection of Union Boulevard and North Graham Street after a passenger vehicle and a motorcycle collided.
The driver of the car found themselves in every motorist’s worst nightmare. After the collision occurred with 25-year-old motorcyclist Elias Alzaghtiti, the driver immediately pulled over, remained at the scene, and waited for police and paramedics to arrive. Authorities reported that the driver escaped the physical crash without any injuries.
Emergency responders arrived at the busy intersection to find Alzaghtiti seriously hurt, despite the fact that he was properly wearing his helmet at the time of the impact. Paramedics loaded the young rider into an ambulance and rushed him to Lehigh Valley Hospital–Muhlenberg. Despite emergency efforts to save his life, he was pronounced dead at 9:43 a.m.
When police officers arrived, the driver stayed right where they were and fully cooperated with law enforcement officers gathering evidence. Investigators noted that the driver provided details about what happened leading up to the crash. As of right now, officials have not indicated whether any charges will be filed against anyone involved.
The crash happened along one of the busier roadways in eastern Pennsylvania. Allentown serves as the hub of the Lehigh Valley region, located about 60 miles north of Philadelphia and 90 miles west of New York City. The junction at Union Boulevard and North Graham Street carries a steady stream of commuter traffic, making morning travel especially dense.
This fatal accident highlights an alarming trend that local authorities have been tracking closely this year. According to Lehigh County Coroner Dan Buglio, this crash represents the ninth motorcycle-related death in the county in 2026. That number represents a sharp rise compared to the same timeframe in 2025, when the county recorded five motorcycle fatalities.
An official autopsy is set for Monday at the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office and Forensic Center to determine the exact cause of death. Meanwhile, a team of investigators from the Allentown Police Department, the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office, and the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office continues to review the physical evidence and timeline to get a full picture of the crash.
