Thursday afternoon started out like any other day on Wyoming Avenue. Drivers were making their usual runs, pulling in and out of local businesses, and enjoying the clear weather. Nicholas Rosenbaum was out on his motorcycle, heading northbound right in the driving lane. He was just 35 years old and living in nearby Swoyersville, simply going about his day.
Without warning, everything changed in the 900 block of Wyoming Avenue. A pickup truck pulled out from the McDonald’s parking lot and directly into the path of Nicholas’s motorcycle. The two vehicles collided in a fraction of a second, leaving no time for anyone to react. The sudden impact shattered the peaceful afternoon routine along the busy strip.
Bystanders immediately called for help, and emergency crews rushed to the scene. Nicholas was wearing his helmet at the time of the crash, but the force of the collision left him with critical injuries. Paramedics worked quickly to stabilize him right there on the roadway before loading him into an ambulance.
Rescuers transported Nicholas to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center over in Plains Township. Medical staff did everything they could to save him, but his injuries were just too severe. Sadly, Nicholas passed away shortly after arriving at the hospital.
The tragic news hit Swoyersville like a ton of bricks. Nicholas was a well-loved member of the community, known for his warm personality and easygoing nature. Friends and neighbors are still struggling to grasp how a quick ride down the road turned into such an unimaginable loss.
Wyoming Area Regional Police Chief Michael Turner confirmed the details of the crash and noted that a full investigation is underway. Local officers are working side-by-side with the Pennsylvania State Police accident reconstruction unit to break down every detail of the collision. The Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office is also involved to ensure every angle is covered.
Investigators are currently collecting and reviewing surveillance footage from McDonald’s and surrounding businesses. They are measuring skid marks, examining vehicle damage, and piecing together the exact timeline leading up to the crash.
