Kylie Hoogendorn lived for her two kids, loving them with every piece of her heart. Late Monday night, that devotion ended in a sudden, heartbreak-riddled moment on an Anchorage street. The twenty-three-year-old mother was behind the wheel when a late-night drive turned into an absolute nightmare.
It was just past midnight on Tuesday, July 28, when disaster struck near the busy intersection of East Northern Lights Boulevard and UAA Drive. Kylie was driving east in a GMC Sierra pickup truck. Out of nowhere, the truck veered off course and slammed directly into a heavy light pole on the corner.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene right around twelve-two in the morning. When first responders arrived, they found the wreckage crumpled against the post. Kylie passed away right there at the scene before doctors could even try to help her.
Inside the truck were her two little children, Karli and Levi. First responders pulled both youngsters from the wrecked vehicle and rushed them to a nearby hospital. Both kids suffered terrifying, life-threatening injuries in the hard crash.
Family members say little Karli is in extremely critical condition, holding on as doctors watch her closely around the clock. Her brother, Levi, is dealing with painful, severe leg injuries as medical teams work to treat his trauma.
Loved ones are completely shattered by the loss of a young mom who put her kids above everything else. Her family quickly launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover funeral expenses and travel costs during this dark time. They are also asking for donated Alaska Airlines miles and Bering Air points to fly relatives in from Koyuk so everyone can stand by the kids.
The Anchorage Police Department’s Major Collision Investigation Unit is digging into what caused the truck to leave the road. Officers are urging anyone with street video or information about the crash to call police or contact Crime Stoppers right away.
