Nineteen years old is supposed to be the moment life finally opens up. You are figuring out who you are, making big plans, and learning how to step into the world on your own terms. Justice Faith Wells was right at that sweet spot in life, ready to take on whatever came next. But on a warm Sunday afternoon along Interstate 77, everything was stolen from her in a flash of violence inside a moving car.
It happened on July 26 near Exit 35 in Mooresville. Justice was behind the wheel of her black Kia, driving down the highway like thousands of other folks that weekend. Sitting next to her in the passenger seat was her 23-year-old on-again, off-again boyfriend, J’Kobe Tre’Shon Ramseur. Nobody on the road that afternoon could have guessed the terror unfolding behind those windows as a sudden, desperate struggle broke out between them.

Inside that car, Justice fought for her life. Investigators later found four bullet holes in the vehicle, several tearing straight through the roof, proving that she was desperately trying to push the gun away and keep it from firing. Despite her brave fight, both she and Ramseur ended up with gunshot wounds to the head. Emergency crews rushed them off to the hospital, but Justice had suffered injuries that no teenager should ever have to bear.
For days, her family waited by her hospital bedside, holding onto every shred of hope they could find. They prayed for a miracle, hoping her youth and spirit would pull her through. But after a tough fight, Justice passed away from her injuries. What started as an initial charge of attempted murder against Ramseur was quickly upgraded by police to first-degree murder.
Back home, her family was left picked apart by a grief so heavy words can barely touch it. Her father, Jason Wells, described the young woman as someone who was just beginning to truly experience what life had to offer. She was a daughter who brought light into every room she walked into, and a devoted sister to two young girls and a brother who now have to figure out how to navigate growing up without her.
To help ease the sudden weight on the family, Jason launched a GoFundMe campaign titled “Help lay my daughter to rest.” The fundraiser aimed to raise $10,000 to cover her funeral costs and give her grieving siblings some room to breathe while they mourn. Community members quickly stepped up to show their support, raising $5,600 in early donations to help lift up a family that was completely blindsided by tragedy.
Justice’s story is a heartbreaking reminder of how quickly a promising future can be wiped away. As her family prepares to lay her to rest, her friends and neighbors are clinging tightly to her memory. They remember her not by the awful moments on the highway, but by the joy she brought into their lives during the short nineteen years she had on this earth
