The night was quiet across the plains of Dodge City, Kansas, until the silence shattered in the early hours of Saturday morning. What started as a late-night cruise turned into a nightmare in a heartbeat. Out in Ford County, nineteen-year-old Camacho Ovalle was behind the wheel of a 2020 Polaris RZR XP four-wheeler, heading eastbound through the rugged terrain of the Arkansas River riverbed.
It was roughly 4:18 a.m. when everything went wrong near the intersection of West U.S. 50 and 104 Road. Camacho lost control of the powerful off-road machine on the uneven riverbed ground. In a split second, the vehicle flipped over, rolling violently into the dark riverbed and trapping Camacho and his passenger beneath the heavy metal frame.
Emergency calls flooded in right away, sending first responders rushing out into the pitch-black morning. Deputies from the Ford County Sheriff’s Office and local rescue crews raced to the scene, working feverishly under spot lamps to cut through the wrecked utility vehicle and pull the young men free from the twisted steel.
